"When I am very busy, as all excellent chefs are, when our gorgeous eaterie
is full to bursting (as it always is) with empty, uneducated stomachs
demanding to be filled, I realise how so very, very good I really am. It is
a full house, night after night, just like in the theatre, and demand keeps
growing and growing. The show is great! They love us! It will run and run!“
“When we are at our very busiest, I remind myself that people come to eat
here because they cannot get such food anywhere else, not at home, not in
another restaurant, and they certainly have no idea or culinary skill to
prepare such momentous food for themselves. Our food is near perfection. So
there simply cannot be a complaint. And when there is, it is time to remind
the customer of their privileged place here at our tables."
The Contemptuous Chef
The contemptuous chef thinks you cannot cook for yourself or you are too
lazy to do so. Why else would you be sitting in his/her restaurant?
The Contemptuous Hotelier
The contemptuous hotelier cannot believe you would be so naive or stupid to
pay a hundred pounds to be looked after by a complete stranger such as he!
The Contemptuous Waiter
The contemptuous waiter wonders why you expect five star service when she is
getting only a two star wage.
Contempt kicks in when individual consciousness is lost in favour of the
group - or the herd.
