A Metaphorical Rant

Business has chaotically borrowed just about every metaphor from sport, religion, art and science. Teams are led by gurus, projects by champions. Managers of artists and craftsmen trying to capture chaos. Coaches, trying to hit targets, are peaceful warriors. While one manager is sitting at the feet of Mohammed, learning the Islamic Lessons of leadership, another sits at the feel of Muhammad Ali, learning how to box their way to success. While one applies Nietzsche’s Superman to the career structure, another applies Lois Lane's Superman to motivation in the workplace. It's a corporate, cosmopolitan mess of scary proportions.

Management adopts ever more desperate measures to try to justify its increasingly tenuous existence. Often labeled as "much needed change", consultants are usually only too happy and willing to oblige.
