A Word from Legal & General – sponsors of the play

Legal & General and sustainability

At Legal & General we strive to understand our environmental impact, and then to reduce it. This requires policies, procedures and most importantly engagement with our 9,000 employees. This year we were proud to receive a Platinum Environment award from Business in the Community and are committed to continuing to improve our performance.

Legal & General’s CEO, Tim Breedon, sums up the approach:

"Doing business in a responsible, sustainable way goes hand-in-hand with doing business successfully. It is one way we ensure we have a long term future as a trusted and well-regarded financial services organisation"

Graham Precey - Head of CSR at Legal & General says,

"We have a huge position of influence as a company as we own 5% of the FTSE on behalf of our customers. This enables us to question and engage other companies on their environmental, social and economic impacts. As a consumer, we spend around half a billion pounds a year buying in products and service and encourage our suppliers to follow high standards of ethical and environmental behaviour. We are the fourth biggest property fund manager in the UK and have a huge opportunity to work with our commercial property occupiers to help them to understand and improve their environmental performance, but without a good story to tell on our own internal performance, how can we expect others to improve theirs?

Working in an innovative way with theatre

"Working with Rational Madness Theatre Company has given us an opportunity to look at the way we approach sustainability in a more creative way. It has given us a new way of encouraging employees to think about the resources they use at home and in the office. We also recognise that this approach should not be held within the walls of Legal & General, the general public should also benefit from this theatre-based approach, hence the mixture between Legal & General employees and the general public being performed to over the upcoming months."
